High above Maral village, inside a natural cave in the Sahyadri rock, sits Marleshwar — a Shiva lingam that local tradition holds was never installed by human hands, simply found already present, awakened. Tradition connects its founding to Lord Parashuram himself. Devotees climb several hundred stone steps to reach it, past the Dhareshwar waterfall, into a cave shared quietly with harmless boa snakes that have lived there as long as anyone can remember.

Nobody built this for spectacle. It has simply always been a place people climb toward, slowly, on their own two feet, to sit for a while in the dark and be still.
