Pranic Healing in Khed

A taluka that has never asked to be noticed.

Khed sits inland from the coast, where the Jagbudi and Vashishti rivers move through Sahyadri forest and old fort ridges. It isn’t the kind of place that shows up on a typical tourist map — and the people here have never seemed to mind.

GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY

Khed’s land rises into the Sahyadri range, its hills once fortified by Shivaji’s forces at Mahipatgad, Rasalgad, and Sumargad — a chain of forts built for watching, not for show. Raghuveer Ghat winds through the hills nearby, the kind of road travelled mostly by people who already know where it leads.

Khed sits on the Konkan Railway line today, a quiet stop between larger destinations, much as it has quietly sat between larger histories for a long time.

A LAND THAT HAS ALWAYS HELD SPACE FOR THE SACRED

Near Khed’s own bus stand, cut into rock, sit caves believed to date to the Hinayana Buddhist period — left unfinished, weathered, mostly overlooked. Nobody has built a gate around them. They simply remain, the way they have for centuries.

Further out, the small Ekvira temple sits in quiet surroundings on the edge of town. There is no ticket counter, no set visiting hours — a neighbour or the priest’s family holds the key, and hands it over to anyone who asks, on trust that it will be returned. It is a small thing, but it says something true about how this taluka treats what it considers sacred: without ceremony, without display, simply cared for.

LIFE AND LIVELIHOOD

Farming and forest life shape most households across Khed, set at the pace of hill and river rather than highway. It is this same quiet, unhurried character that Pranic Healing has found room within.
